Yoga & Culture Retreat: Restore & Explore / Ingrid Marcroft & Stephan Kolbert
February 8 - 15, 2020
When we first visited Lake Atitlan in 2015, we were stunned by the beauty and quiet of the lake, accentuated by three picturesque volcanos on the far shore. We knew instantly we’d return, and the time has come! Last year’s volcanic eruptions have caused no harm to the lake and now we are thrilled to show you this heaven on earth.
Our home for the week is in Santa Cruz La Laguna along Lake Atitlan’s shoreline, reachable only by boat. The profound calm of the setting makes it easy to rest deeply. The Mayan people believe that Lake Atitlan is their birthplace and it is often referred to as the most beautiful lake in the world. Over 18 years ago, our host, Wendy, conceived an extraordinary facility for holistic health, deep restoration, exploration, and self-inquiry. The property is so beautiful that it’s hard to leave, but if you are looking to kayak, hike, go birding, or discover the local artisans, there are plenty of options. The spa/wellness services and numerous hammocks also await! Our favorite activities include relaxing on the dock in the sun, swimming in the lake (they now also have a lovely pool!), and enjoying the solar hot tub. Walks along the shoreline are spectacular, as well.
Whether you have a longtime yoga practice or are a yoga newbie, this retreat is an invitation for you to deepen your practice, connect within, visit with old and new friends, or simply relax. We’ll offer a foundations class (with a chair option included) and an amplified practice each day, along with restorative practice and morning meditation. All classes will be led by either Ingrid and/or Stephan and will be crafted to meet the students’ needs. Discover how a week of daily yoga and meditation brings your practice and your life to a deeper level of inquiry and joy!
OUR YOGA RETREAT INCLUDES:
- 7 nights accommodations (check in 3pm, check out 10am)
- 3 gourmet vegetarian meals per day (vegan & gluten-free options at all meals; chicken or fish is available for lunch or dinner, requested ahead of time with a $7 charge per person per meal)
- daily yoga and meditation sessions (2x daily or extended morning session)
- 1 hour-long massage
- Mayan Fire Ceremony with a Shaman
- Boat excursion to San Juan La Laguna and Santa Marcos (on the other side of the lake)
- All resort taxes & gratuities (except for massage tips and personal indulgences)
Flights and airport transfers are not included.
We highly recommend flying into Guatemala City (GUA) on Friday 2/7 (or even Thursday 2/6) and shuttling to the picturesque colonial town of Antigua. This would give you the morning to explore museums, art, textiles, and eateries. Consider staying there Saturday 2/15, too. Staying in Antigua is of course not necessary, but it is an excellent bonus to the retreat. : ) Shuttle options and pricing, along with recommended lodging in Antigua and Guatemala City, are listed below ROOM DETAILS:.

Maya Rose House
Maya Rose rooms 2-7 are the original rooms on the property and are set on the same level as the yoga space and the dining area. We stayed in one of these rooms the first time we were here. They are lovely, and best for people who prefer fewer stairs throughout the day, since much of the property is on a steep hillside.
The Skyline Bungalows (9, 10 and 20) are more secluded, sitting up on the hillside at the edge of the property. They boast panoramic views and, as the name suggests, are a bit of a very worthwhile climb.
The Ginger Suites (8, 17, 18, 21 and 22) are the newest and most luxurious addition to the property. These rooms require a varying amount of steps, but not as many as the Skyline Bungalows and, rest assured, they are worth it!

SHUTTLE DETAILS AND PRICING:
