Mayan Mothers’ Food Fund
Open Dates
100% of your generous donation will go toward buying food for local Mayan women in Santa Cruz La Laguna whose families are in the greatest need of financial support. Thank you!
We are delighted to hear that you are interested in supporting our Mayan Mothers’ Food Fund. This year alone we have been able to support over 50 women by delivering 245 market fresh bags of produce and vegetables.

The Mayan Mothers’ Food Fund project began when we realized that although there are many nonprofit agencies working in our area, some of the older women, including widows and mothers with little to no income and those with alcoholic husbands were not being served.

Our project is simple. All the money we collect goes directly toward the purchase of hand-selected vegetables and fruits for the families of our Mayan mothers target group. The women range from a 12-year-old orphan to the elderly. This small project does not have any significant administrative costs, so all the donation money goes directly toward buying food.

We pay one of our own employees to identify the women most in need. This employee is herself a single mother who, having lived all her life in the pueblo, speaks the local Mayan language. We pay her a small weekly stipend, and her sole objective is to help the women in the greatest need. She organizes the purchase of the bags and orchestrates the selection of 7-8 women each week to benefit from this program. We spend approximately $108 per week ($432 per month) to make this “food bag—gift of life” a reality.

Each woman hand selects the produce she’d like for her family. Because the ladies purchase the food directly, they are given the most favorable price by the local vendors. Every week we get photos of the women and the bag of food they hand selected. This enables us to know that our funds are successfully reaching those in need.
